“MEMORY OF YAKUTIA” PORTAL

“Memory of Yakutia” Portal is an information product, the result of implementation of “Memory of Yakutia” Program (2002-2006) approved by the decree of the Government of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) №116 from the 2nd March, 2001. The main goal of the program is preservation of documentary heritage of peoples of Yakutia as a part of the world cultural heritage and provision with access to it on the basis of the modern information technology.

“Memory of Yakutia” Portal gives free access to valuable and rare documents out of stocks of the National Library of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia), the National Archive of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia), the State United Museum of History and Culture of Peoples of the North after E. Yaroslavsky, the State National Depository of Film Documents about the Republic Sakha (Yakutia). For foreign users English version is available (Eng. version).

Book monuments of Yakutia are represented by electronic copies of originals of the first books in Yakut language, the most valuable pre-revolutionary publications about Yakutia. The material is accompanied by scientific commentaries on history of the Yakut books; the full repertoire of the Yakut books within the period of 1812-1916 is published.

In the section of National Bibliography of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) the main bibliographic manuals about Yakutia are represented; among them are “Bibliography of Yakutia” by N.N. Gribanovsky, “Chronicle of Printing of Yakutia” and other.

Unique and especially valuable documents of the archive fund of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) acquaint with documents of the Yakutsk Voevode Office (1701-1823), the Yakutsk Provincial Office (1778-1892), the Yakutsk Office Commissar (1766), the Yakutsk Steppe Duma (1827-1860), Yakutsk Governor (1862-1919), the Yakutsk Regional Administration (1805-1909), the Yakutsk Regional Scrivener (1815-1851), the Yakutsk Regional on Town’s Affairs Office, and with documentary monuments of social and political thought of Yakutia of 18th-20th centuries as well. Photo chronicle of Yakutia is represented by photos of the late 19th – early 20th centuries reflecting the most significant events and facts from the history and culture of Yakutia. The work was conducted on the following subject blocks: social and political life of the region, cultural life of Yakutia, industry and trade in Yakutia, traditional kinds of farm?/household?d/economy? of peoples of Yakutia, agriculture of Yakutia, education and healthcare of Yakutia, history of exile, research expeditions, orthodoxy of Yakutia, traditional religion of Yakutia and other.

In the section of Film Chronicle of Yakutia are represented 60 films from the stocks of the State National Repository Film Documents about the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) disclosing various periods of history and culture of Yakutia. The considerable part of the films is unique and valuable on its historical and cultural importance that is of great interest not only to the population of the republic, but also to Russian and foreign users. Rare shots of film chronicle are gathered in collections “Olonkho”, “Yakut Diamonds”, “The Lena River” and other.

The section of “Voices of the Century: Music and Sound Heritage of the Peoples of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) represents rare records of Yakut music and folklore performed by masters of national creative work (Olonkho singers, Toyuk singers, khomus players) and professional performers.

“Memory of Yakutia” Portal is intended to promote spreading of knowledge about history and rich cultural heritage of Yakutia, forming of positive image of the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) in Russia and abroad.
